The Protection and Advocacy System is a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization that is comprised of various advocates and attorneys who serve persons with disabilities. It supports The Protection and Advocacy for Assistive Technology, which is a program that helps people with disabilities to obtain assistive technology devices and services. It is a Medicare- and Medicaid-certified organization that works in association with vocational rehabilitation, special education and private health insurance companies. The Protection and Advocacy System also administers Protection and Advocacy of Individual Rights, which is a program that focuses on legal rights of people with disabilities established by the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is located in Albuquerque, N.M.
