My son spent his senior year of high school (2002-2003) at Montcalm School (part of Starr). This was his"last chance" school, and without it he would not have graduated, gone to college, or be well-employed with his own house. With a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome when that was a relatively new and largely unknown entity, the skill and caring of the entire staff was life-changing. Our family is saddened by the recent need for Starr to close Montcalm and hope that the new paradigm will continue the good work.

This is a place where troubled students can have a second chance at righting behavior, making great choices and succeeding in life. The 400 acre campus is breathe taking, plenty of room for students to grow and glow. The program offers discipline. education, social skills, and team play. The counselors and social workers with students, parents, and law enforcer for the benefit of the child. It is my prayer that every juvenile that is assigned here realize what an opportunity they have been afforded and take advantage of it.

My son attended this school and had a terrible experience. Their website and admissions team do a very good job selling the school and its facilities. It's a beautiful location and the facilities are indeed great. But it's badly managed and many of their cottage staff are incompetent. The boys go to bed at 8.30 in the evening and do very little outdoor activity. My son only attended for a short time but they managed to do more damage to his treatment plan. You will not find many reviews of this school and you hold think very carefully about sending child for treatment. There is very little contact and they monitor everything. You can call but will never get to speak to you son.i would not recommend this school at all

Do not EVER send a child there...

Do not EVER send a child there - a drugged induced holding cell. My son attended. Horrible experience - for him and his parents.
