My Dad exited the facility very weak, and walked down to the creek in attempt to take pills and end his life. My mom had left for 30 minutes to eat and found out about this attempt upon return only when she saw flashing lights of police and EMT and him be escorted out on a gurney. She did not receive a call to notify her in advance. As my dad further declined due to cancer diagnosis he tended to wander out of confusion and was a big fall risk. We requested a tabs alarm and were told they do not have any. He had two falls. When my Dad was toward the end of his life, I requested for Hospice to come knowing he had less than an hour before death. This was at 9am. I was told they would be there around Noon and no effort was put forth to request them sooner. At 9:15am my Dad took his last deep breath and died with my Mom and I at his side. I had to leave the room to notify them he had passed. Almost 15 minutes later someone came in, checked pulse, and "confirmed" death. Prior to being told I said "Time of death 9:15am" to the nurse to show my frustration for the delay in response especially with the fact he was on Hospice. Overall, absolute disappointment.
