Established in 1959, Austin Elementary School serves students in prekindergarten through grade six. The school offers after-school care programs and conducts classes in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Austin Elementary School provides special education programs to talented and gifted students. In addition, the school provides reading recovery, special education and English as a Second Language programs. Austin Elementary School's staff includes a psychologist, social worker and school nurse who provide support to students and their families. The school supports chess, fitness and Destination Imagination clubs, as well as a student council. Austin Elementary School also offers extracurricular activities, such as Math Olympiad, spelling bee competitions and foreign language instruction. Austin Elementary School is a part of the Abilene Independent School District.
