The volume in my hearing aids seemed to have gone down so I went to Connect Hearing to have them turned up a little. I have top of the line Phonac that I paid $6,000 for, but they are getting old.

She gave me a hearing test and said that my hearing hadn't changed much since the last test, and I just needed new hearing aids at a cost of $4,900. I said I would think about it, but meanwhile could she just turn up the volume a little. She said there wasn't anything she could do with the ones I have, I really needed new ones, and she wouldn't make any adjustment.

I then made an appointment with Audiological Consultants of Atlanta in Marietta. They have a REAL Doctor of Audiology there who looked in my ear and said there was a lot of wax, which she removed. She then gave me a hearing test and found that my hearing was a lot better then was shown by the Connect Hearing test. It also solved the "volume" problem I had.

Connect hearing was also the place I went a couple of years back when my hearing aids quit working. They told me I needed new ones then as well, but I asked to get mine fixed. They said they would for $1,000 up front. I paid it and they sent them off. They came back still broken, so they sent them back to Phonac once again, but they still didn't work even after this second time. I then asked her if there was a way they could just "reboot" them and she said yes and did so. Problem fixed, so that was a $1,000 wasted; if was a software problem, not hardware.

Back to Audiological Consultants of Atlanta. I told them I was interested in getting some new Phonac top of the line Aids since mine were getting old and the technology has really improved. She checked and found that with my Insurance Company she could get them for $4,050 dollars as opposed to the $4,900 from Connect Hearing, so I have gone with Audiological Consultants of Atlanta for my new aids.
