If an Excellent Vet is what you need, then Dr. Thornburgh is the Vet for you. But if you need a Therapist for yourself, then don't go there. Animal care is what they do and they do it very well.

Dr. Thornburgh and staff are EXCELLENT animal caregivers. The Dr's no nonsense approach may offend some, but the care given is top notch and the fees for services rendered are very reasonable. Just sit in the waiting room and chat with the other pet owners and you will know how beloved Dr. Thornburgh is. Other patients will engage you in conversation. I've only been a client for 9 months, however, my sister and one of my friends have taken their dogs and cats to him for YEARS! I have already referred two of my friends. I can't say enough positive things about the Dr. Tip: there's no time for excess chit chat; others are anxious and waiting for service from this popular vet! Come to the appointment ready to articulate your pet's symptoms and/or the reason for your visit (bring notes). The vet does provide an invoice, and if for some reason it's not handed to you then just ask for it.

First of all, let me open by saying, I read the reviews here on yp, and i must say, while it's most unfortunate that some dc residents have had (they say),a less than desired experience, i've, on the other hand, had no problems with the care, service, bedside manor nor anything else the doctor recommends, suggests or has done for MY little ones!! The doctor & the hospital are excellent!

Now, as for the bill you receive( a petty penance, compared to the other hospitals in the area),one should be overwhelmingly happy there's a hospital in the area so committed to giving care at such a high level of competence all the while, at A relatively high economic value, (ref. cost for same at other area facilities).

Service to the animals attention to detail the doctor treats as if they are like his own.

He shows humanity but tempers that with relating to you the client; the real deal no sugar coating & all details are related to you( the animal owner), with tact & pure professionalism.

Part 3: ZERO stars is what I really want to rate him. If you didn't see part 1 or 2: he stitched my cat 's surgery site w/o anesthesia and then told me it didn't hurt her (I heard her screaming). He's rude and doesn't let you ask questions. Hes really a cheapskate -- no meds, no antibiotics, no written instructions, no employees. He doesnt even give you an itemized bill. Just you owe $300 for a male and a female fixing and shots. If you get out of there without a problem, you are lucky! Hes a real cheapskate, but interestingly I saw on the internet that he bought an $850,000 house this July 2009 in the worst economy in history! It seems all the cutting corners pays off well for HIM, thats for sure. It may be a LITTLE cheaper at Petworth but its not worth the agony that you AND your pet will go through. My cat is now passed out with exhaustion from the whole ordeal and hopefully not in pain. Go at your own risk but dont say you didnt know!

Part 1: Wish it could be 0 stars. If you care about your animal, you won't go to Petworth!!! He stitched up my cat's spay surgery site WITHOUT anesthesia!!! I heard her screaming. He said 'she just didn't like to be held down'. He doesn't give you post-surgery instructions or an itemized bill! He's rude and doesn't care about you OR YOUR PET.

Part 3: ZERO stars is what I really want to rate him. Hes really a cheapskate -- no meds, no antibiotics, no written instructions, no employees except the mop guy and Maureen (part-time)! Would give no stars if it were possible!Part 1: If you care about your animal, you wont go to Petworth!!! He stitched up my cats spay surgery site WITHOUT anesthesia!!! He doesnt give you post-surgery instructions or an itemized bill!My female cat was spayed at Petworth, unfortunately. She was sent home with no written post-surgery instructions. I took her back the next day b/c she ripped out the stitches as soon as we got home and had a gaping raw open wound all night long. I had to call an emergency animal hospital to find out what to do since there is no emergency number at Petworth (they dont care!) The emergency hospital told me to get an Elizabethan collar so she wont get down to the internal stitches. It would have been nice to know ahead of time what to do. After inconveniencing by son to get the collar for me since I didnt want to leave her alone, the collar made her crazy but at least she didnt bother the open wound anymore. (See next posting)
