Valley Proteins is one of the largest non-captive recyclers of animal by-products and waste cooking oils in the United States. With facilities located in several states, the company processes approximately 65 million pounds per week of these waste materials or less than 10 percent of the total U.S. supply. Valley Proteins provides service to more than 40,000 meat and poultry processing plants, supermarkets, restaurants and farmers located in 17 states. The company offers other services, including grease trap disposal, cooking oil disposal and dead stock removal. Headquartered in Winchester, Va., the company was founded in 1949 by Clyde Smith. For more than 55 years, three generations of the Smith family have developed the business by organic expansion and acquisitions with operations that extend from the East to South Central states.
