Beatty Lumber & Millwork Company was established and opened for business at its present location in Upper Darby in September of 1923. Mr. B. H. Beatty, Sr. and Mr. C. R. Owens both served as co-owners until 1955. Mr. B. Harper Beatty, Jr. assumed the owner/manager position in that year. Following Mr. Beatty's retirement in 1999, his grandson Eric D. Tucker assumed the role of General Manager. Delivery of materials in the old days was primarily by railroad car, with a main spur running directly through the property and continuing north to the now non-existent Young Supply Company and Lobb Lumber Company in Havertown, which was across from the chewing gum factory. All lumber and millwork was off-loaded by hand from the railroad cars to wherever the material was to be stored. The first fork-lift used at Beatty Lumber was in 1967. In 1970 fire completely destroyed the office/warehouse complex located in the southeast corner of the property. Over succeeding years, all wooden structures have been replaced with concrete block structures.
