There are moments in people’s lives when they are depressed and/or anxious as a reaction to an impaired self-esteem, obsessions, job stresses, marital conflicts, illnesses, and/or many problems with their children. Counseling may assist troubled individuals to have a better understanding of themselves and of others. Such understanding alleviates suffering, and coping skills may improve. As a traditional psychiatrist I counsel in 45 minute weekly sessions children with their parents, with adolescents alone or with their parents depending on their problems, with couples having marital conflicts, and with individuals experiencing difficulties such as anger, panic attacks, depression, mood swings, compulsions, work related problems, and/or addition to alcohol, drugs, and/or gambling. Medication is prescribed when it is clinically indicated. There are two fundamental approaches in the practice of psychiatry. There are the traditional psychiatrists, like myself, whose primary mode of treatment is counseling, and there are psychiatrists who refer to themselves as psychopharmacologists. Psychopharmacologists spend a brief time monthly with patients, make a diagnosis, and prescribe drugs without counseling. Should you be interested in counseling, I welcome you. EDUCATION
