We called Erie Construction because we wanted a quote on a new roof.

First of all, our appointment was for a Saturday morning, but they called *us* and asked if they could come on Friday. Thinking it would only be an hour or so, we agreed, and one of their sales people showed up around 5:30 Friday evening. Things started off okay, he looked around at the roof and saw what we had (about 2 layers of shingles). So after about 15 minutes or so of looking at the outside of the house, he wants to come inside and show us some samples, and (we hoped) write up a quote for us.

The guy brought in his computer and about enough stuff to move in with him. He pretty much filled our entire front room with his various samples and other garbage and all we wanted was to see samples and a quote. Every question we asked was followed by a completely off tangent discussion from what movies we watched recently to anything else not related to our roof. A simple question of "How long will it take" led to an entire discussion of their employees and drug testing and so on. Good to know, but not what I needed at the time since I really was just wanting a quote. A question about the type of roofing led to "Come outside and see your neighbors house" ... a question about color became "come outside and see how this looks against your siding!" I didn't give a flipping crap about how my roof looks against the siding since our siding is old and is going to be replaced soon as well. And frankly, I don't care what my neighbor's house looks like, I want to know what MY house will look like and how much is it going to cost. Even "How much does a solar fan go for?" Became a run-around answer.

He made assumptions about our house - "oh it had cedar shake on it that the previous owner ignored" ... "oh since your house is this certain age the shingles are asbestos" ... Funny thing was he even said a good contractor would test for these things - obviously he didn't in the whooping 15 minutes he spent outside. He contradicted himself all over the place, and he didn't do any kind of testing - as I said, our roof has two layers of shingles, and I'm quite sure the first layer isn't 60 years old.

Around 8:15 (yes close to 3 hours later) my spouse told him that "No, I am not signing anything and I still want other quotes and I would like you to leave." (We're talking about having to take out a loan prices here. Not something you just sign away on at a moment's notice.) He's still saying "Oh why? I have so much other crap to tell you - we can order out food etc". I'm sorry but in these economic times, my spouse works out of state and we only get to see each other for two days out of the week ... the last thing I want is some guy in my house wasting our time and trying to hard sell us something we don't even want, especially for the kind of prices that involve another loan etc. I was about to call the police to have them come remove this annoying man from our house when another 1/2 hour passed and he STILL HAD NOT LEFT. He even invited himself to call in for take out food and/or follow us to a restaurant! I hadn't seen my spouse in two weeks and did NOT want to have some jerk of a salesman follow us anywhere or be in our home any longer. This guy had absolutely NO CLUE what-so-ever following body language or annoyance directed at him. If he'd been smart he would have written up a quote for us, showed us his samples and left. There was NO NEED for him to be in our house for OVER 3 HOURS.

The topper - HE NEVER LEFT THE QUOTE OR EVEN A BUSINESS CARD. Over 3 hours wasted for NOTHING. They won't be getting our business.
