Established in 1864, Arizona Historical Society is one of the oldest historical agencies in Arizona. Located in Tempe, Ariz., the society serves as the steward of state and regional history. It is responsible to collect, preserve, interpret and disseminate the history of Arizona, the West and northern Mexico as it pertains to Arizona. The historical agency offers unrivaled opportunities for public programming, educational outreach and exhibitions as well as academic and community-based research. Arizona Historical Society also works to promote public understanding of contemporary issues, such as water availability, immigration, free trade, mining, ranching and agribusiness.
