Florida League of Cities, located in Tallahassee, Fla., was founded in 1922 by city officials to unite the municipal governments in the state. It is one of the leading municipal leagues throughout the United States. The league focuses on promoting local self-governance. Florida League of Cities serves several needs of the municipal governments in the state, such as advocacy at state and federal levels, and enhancing public knowledge of municipal services. The league offers its membership to municipalities and units of local governments rendering municipal services in the state. It has more than 400 municipalities, and over five charter counties as its voluntary members. It also partners with companies who support the league as exhibitors and sponsors at various conferences and as advertisers in league publications. The league is governed by a board of directors, consisting of elected city, town and village officials. It also has public risk and technology services departments.
