Bob Lapidus founded Bob s Stores as Bob s Surplus in Middletown, Conn., in 1954. Surplus was eliminated from the stores name and its product line in 1985. At that point, the store began to focus on well-known brand names. Bob's Stores offers a variety of casualwear, activewear and footwear brands. Athletic, work, casual and kids shoes the store carries includes brands such as New Balance, Nike and Timberland. Along with casualwear for all ages, Bob s Stores carries teamwear for NFL, MLB, NHL and NCAA teams. Headquartered in Meriden, Conn., Bob s Stores is the official apparel store for the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.
