Provided by YP.comThis has been the most practical and understanding karate instruction I have experienced after having trained in several different schools. Learning forms and techniques is common to all dojos, but learning why and how each form and technique applies in real situations appears unique to USSD Southlake. I recommend it to anyone who wants quality, realistic, and still enjoyable training.

Provided by YP.comIt is too bad the school is somewhat hidden away in the corner of the Albertson's Shopping Center at Southlake Blvd and Davis Blvd. However, it you take the time to find it, you and any member of your family will be delighted at the quality of instruction and the practical self-defense that you will learn. The instruction is built around a combination of private lessons and group classes. For me, this has made it soooo much easier to learn and retain the form and techniques. And, the instructors always find a way to motivate you and make you feel good about how you are doing. Now, that is how learning self-defense should be for the beginner.

Provided by YP.comAs a parent and a karate student, I know how hard it is to find a good quality karate school with instructors that are both talented and good teachers. USSD (United Studios of Self Defense) stands head and shoulders above many schools in the area. The head instructor (Sensei Orren) is a 4th degree black belt who has been in the martial arts for around 26 years! He is an excellent teacher for both young children through older adults like me.
What you learn is actually about self-defense, self-control, etiquette, confidence building, and character development. More importantly, the learning is individually paced for each student so that no one has to worry about keeping up or falling behind. Because they are part of a large network, the teaching is consistent, high quality, and constantly evaluated to make certain it meets the needs of all students.
Making the decision to become a student is the hardest part. After that, you will look forward to going to class and get excited about what you are learning. My 21 year old son and I are enjoying doing something together that we can both enjoy, learn together, and practice at home. That alone is worth the price of admission.
I would encourage anyone, adults, parents, teens and children, to visit the school (studio) and see for yourself.
