We love this place. The qualify of the food and the selection is unsurpassed. The service is professional and helpful. We had the Grilled Romaine salad, Seared Tuna, entrees of New Zealand lamb and Grilled Salmon. Everything was excellent. We shared a chocolate souffle with ice cream, a perfect ending to our evening.

Always enjoy this place. Food is great. Staff friendly but professional. Nice atmosphere and art. Lots on the menu from which to choose. Highly recommend.

Excellent cuisine, well portioned. Staff was pleasant, warm, and extemely professional. Loved the artwork and the ambiance. Supportive of community with postings of local events on the bottom of their specials. Great find in Southern VA.

Bistro 1888 offers diners delicious food, but the portions are not particularly large, nor are the prices low. The restaurant decor is dominated by the unusual (some might say bizarre) paintings and sculptures created by the owner's Dad, Bob Cage -- Freud would have a lot to say about the artwork. Captive to familial loyalty and local taste, the Bistro fails in its attempt to present an upscale image, a problem compounded by the sometimes too-fast and too-familiar relationships servers and bartenders seem to attempt to create between themselves and customers. Intrusive questions directed at strangers, loud gossip and raucous remarks from the bar area (populated by local 'regulars'), and strange, sometimes plainly inappropriate remarks from wait staff can make the dining experience uncomfortable. Bistro 1888, even with the good food it manages to serve up, is still a perfect example of "being able to take the restaurant out of the "country," but not the 'country" out of the restaurant."

Awesome restaurant right in the heart of South Boston. Great place for a celebration, birthday or anniversary. I have not ever had anything that was not delicious. The filet mignon is excellent.

Everything is Fantastic - everyone says they can't believe they have such fine dining in South Boston, Va! To show how much goes into their food, they take 7 days to make the sauce for the filet mignon. You can't believe it can taste that good.
