About Dr. Al-Ani Over the years, Dr. Ismail Al-Ani, MD, FCCP, has learned from his patients to be a good listener. His wish is for them to experience his compassion and appreciate his desire to partner with them in their journey toward wellness. “I take care of patients with lung problems. Some are very ill and require intensive care,” he says. “I hope they see that I am their guide in helping them make better decisions to manage their disease.” Coming from a family of doctors, he recalls knowing as a teenager that he wanted a career in medicine. He chose Beacon, because of its comprehensive, patient-focused system. This model aligns with his personal philosophy of practicing medicine, which is to treat people the way he would like to be treated. Outside of medical questions, he is most often asked where he is from. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and attended Tishreen University medical school in Syria. His post graduate training was completed in Syria and the United States. He had an internship and was a medical resident at Yale University’s Affiliated Program in Connecticut. Dr. Al-Ani was then appointed as Chief Medical Resident at the Bridgeport Hospital (affiliated with Yale), Connecticut. He is board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine, having received fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care at West Virginia University. He has also been a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine since 2002. In addition, Dr. Al-Ani is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians with the title of Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
