The jail operated by the Shelby County Sheriff Department Jail Division holds all adult detainees for the Shelby County Sheriff Department, Shelbyville Police Department, Indiana State Police, Morristown Marshall's Office and the St. Paul Marshall's Office if that person is arrested in Shelby County, Ind. The jail has a capacity of nearly 180 beds and has held more than 200 inmates at times. Shelby County Sheriff Department Jail Division s staff consists of nearly 30 officers to run the facility. The jail staff is in charge of the inmates health and well-being while the inmate is housed in the facility.
