As other reviewers have suggested, Dan is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and fair in his business. I am an individual who is exceedingly inquisitive when outside of my areas of expertise, and Dan answered my myriad of questions confidently and without the slightest hint of annoyance. In a world of shifty business practices, Top Hat Chimney Sweeps is a breath of fresh air.

After reading positive reviews, I was surprised to find Dan rather surly and negative. He complained about his other customers, how dirty our chimney was (?), and how much work he had to do. And he didn’t seem to care if he had our business or not. Attitude aside, he knows chimneys and did a good job cleaning ours. Perhaps he was having a bad week?

Top Hat Chimney Sweeps: our chimney was looking pretty tired and rundown, the crown and bricks had deteriorated over time, and it needed to be re-built. We got bids from several contractors and decided to go with Top Hat - great decision!



Dan Machin is personable, professional and knowledgeable. He answered all questions, and addressed all the details before the work began, while the work was taking place, and after the work was completed. Cost was very reasonable. Dan took care to contain any "fallout" from the work while it was on-going, and did super with the clean-up when completed. If you have any chimney needs, we would strongly recommend Top Hat!!

Dan Machin has been servicing our chimney for many years. His is an established, reliable, and top-notch business. When we moved to an acreage, he rebuilt the top of our chimney and repaired some of our cement window ledges. Years later, these repairs are still holding up beautifully. Dan is punctual, thorough, and tries to keep the cost of services and repairs at a reasonable rate. We highly recommend him and his business!

Been a long time woodburner, had a problem with the chimney, and wood stove for a few years. had two other chimney cleaners and a mason contractor. the contractor could not figure the problem and the two chimney sweeps, where late, messy, and rude, and they both could not solve my smokey, chimney problems. I call Top Hat Chimney Sweeps. Dan Machin (the owner) can over himself, on time! and in about 5 min. Dan figured out the problem. He discovered that my chimney flue was oversided for my woodstove. He installed a chimney liner, and that solved my problem... thanks Dan! Now i call Top Hat every year....
