Porphyry has been used since Roman times for roads that are still functional today. Its naturally rough surface makes it walkable even when wet, and the way it's laid makes it permeable so you don't have run-off problems. Milestone and his staff (yes, his name echoes his profession -- I love it!), are very creative in suggesting patterns appropriate for different areas, and although I haven't lived long enough myself to know whether their work will last as long as the Romans, I'd be willing to bet! (If I lived long enough to collect, and you to pay).
