We ate there last night and it was extraordinary! I couldn't stop eating the Chicken Tikka Masala. It's so delicious! The Vindaloo was outstanding too, but be ready to break a sweat and don't forget the tissue b/c/ it packed plenty of heat! Our server was extremely kind and explained what each thing was that he brought us. Service was fast too.

It is very hard to find good Indian restaurants and we found New Delhi about a year back through recommendation of our friend and we are utterly happy. The food , service and ambiance is always 5 star. We read in the Chronicle that New Delhi follows traditional recipes and I agree , the food is absolutely delicious and authentic. As a matter of fact, our Valentines dinner was at New Delhi Restaurant.‎

New Delhi Restaurant is great. My fiance and I try to go once a week when we are in town. We have tried a lot of the entrees and have yet to find anything we don't love. Also if you don't know what to order, the owner Ranjan is fantastic. He makes great suggestions and really wants to make sure the spice level is something you're comfortable. What a great little find!

I am Indian, My name is Ashish Pandey, I am Basically from Mumbai ,india and I regularly have Indian food outside. I've been to other Indian restaurants in the area and had a decent experience ,I wanted the best Indian food for my wedding because my Wife's parents are from India and we picked in this Indian Restaurant in down town because we have tried many Indian restaurants and we found this restaurant to be the best amongst the lot. The on site tandoor with exceptional decoration and live sitar and tabla music and buffet setup we loved it all. When we went to the restaurant to settle the bill we were asked to share our experience with others and I thought of writting on the net. I can not thank anymore when I told the owners to give special attantion because I want my mother in law to be impressed and she was really impressed and I am glad we picked this indian restaurant to cater the wedding. The customer service was great.

If you need someplace upscale, yet with wonderfully spicy and flavorful food - this is it. I was here last week and enjoyed the chicken korma with a side of sag paneer and some truly stellar nan bread. The concierge at my hotel directed me here and thank God she did! I'll definitely be back on my next trip to the city. There's a lot of menu left to taste.

Not worth it

This restaurant is close to Union square and just like other restaurants around that area - this is a touristy place. The food was definitely not what I would expect from an indian restaurant. I was looking forward to having some great indian good but the vindaloo turned out sweet (vindaloo is supposed to be real spicy). The ambience is dark and dingy.

My office had its annual Christmas luncheon/party at New Delhi. The food was absolutely delicious. I particularly enjoyed the soup with seafood and saffron (?). All the food was served family style, so everyone got to try some of everything and it was all good. The bread was amazing, the server told us that they have an actual tandoori oven in the kitchen, so all the bread is made to order. Boy, does it ever show! It was a wonderful dining experience and I can't wait for an occasion special enough to return to the New Delhi!

I have eaten at Indian Restaurants all over the world, but New Delhi sets the standard for my expectations now. Not only is the food great, but the bar and cocktails are one of the best I have seen any where let alone an Indian restaurant. It is evident that the owners are passionate about what they do. I had a lychee martini! It was great, not the perfect match with the food, but who cares! I would drink that with anything.

We went to New Delhi when the concierge at the Four Seasons recommended it. As soon as we walked in, the brick walls, soaring ceiling, gold chargers on the tables, and spotless bar impressed us. The restaurant has some vivid Indian art on the walls, enlivening the place and adding a nice bohemian touch. The owner of New Delhi, Ranjan, was on hand to greet us and make sure we had an enjoyable evening. Every dish we had was excellent - from the appetizers (scrumptious pakoras), to the Baigan Masala (eggplant simmered with mild spices), the dal and the fragrant basmati rice to the dessert (just perfectly sweetened). Great experience, great value, would definitely go back.

I ate here once a couple months ago and had a excellent experience. Food was great and came in timely and hot fashion. I came here last again last Friday and am happy to say that New Delhi Restaurant remain consistent. The food is amazing just as the service was. The presentation is good and the place still looks like one of the best looking indian restaurants around. Music was great also - I really like the new juke box in the bar a lot. Best in SF. Highly Recommended!!

Our favorite in San Francisco! Great ambiance, friendly staff, attentive and accomodating owner (have celebrated several special events here), terrific mango martinis, great nan bread and chutney (mint and tamarind) and saffron rice...favorite menu items are chicken korma, sag paneer and rogan josh. Family friendly. For Indian in San Francisco, it's a great place to go.

I love this restaurant! I am from the Caribbean and I like my food spicy! I find that few places know how to do spicy without burning your mouth off- but these people know what they are doing. Everything I've tried is delicious, but be adventurous and try the Chef's Specials or the lamb dishes on their menu. They're different, but to die for!! Also, the nan bread is made on site, to order. Which means every basket is piping hot and soft. Be sure to get some, it's the best way to sop up all that sauce.Did I forget to mention that I ALWAYS get SUPERB service from the staff. Well, I do.
