I visited Peter Prier last week to see if they offered or would know who to refer for violin lessons. I spoke with John and Chris, who are the new owners and they were extremely helpful and very professional in helping me with my questions. They also took time to show me violins and explained what would work best for me and even helped with payments arrangements. I was very impressed with my entire experience and how the owners took time out of their day to make sure I was happy and taken care of. I have heard bad things about Peter Prier in the past but under this new ownership, I see nothing but great care and respect for their customers. I would highly recommend stopping by and experiencing it for yourself. Great instruments, great atmosphere and overall great customer care.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE!!! My family and I have been customers of Peter Prier & Sons for 20 years, until today. I will NEVER go back to Prier Violins, EVER and I will never recommend them to anyone ever again, either. Daniel Prier demonstrated the most blatant examples of arrogance, poor customer service, and self-righteousness I have ever seen. Such a shame. I am saddened that I was treated this way by the shop owner, nonetheless. I am more saddened by the fact that I can no longer even stomach the thought of walking through the doors of your shop, or looking into the old school's windows, which is something that I have always enjoyed. What an unfortunate way to treat people, especially from a long-standing local business. I am so disheartened.

I had a phone call with Daniel Prier today (Saturday) in an attempt to discuss how my violin's appraisal was completed. Let me be clear, I was NOT unhappy with the monetary value of my instrument, but the fact that my appraisal literally was WORD-FOR-WORD the same as my old one from 20 years ago when I had my instrument completely restored by Prier Violins (it's a 1711 Strad-type model made around 1920). The market value did not change much, which I expected, and when I called to talk to someone about it and that I felt that $100 for an appraisal that was nearly identical to my old one was a bit steep, Daniel Prier proceeded to interrupt me repeatedly, yell at me on the phone and patronize me by saying he could re-do my appraisal with more adjectives if I wanted. When I repeatedly tried to explain my position and that I was NOT upset with the value it came back at, he continued to accuse me of not being happy with the current market value and that he put a lot of time and research into my appraisal and that he was a very busy man. He said I could bring it back on Monday for a refund of my money and then continued to yell at me that he has 20 years of luthier experience and that it's not his fault the value isn't what I was expecting. I AGAIN explained the value wasn't what I was talking about and that I called so I could have a conversation with someone about my perception of the appraisal and talk with them about what went into it and see if we could come up with a resolution. He continued to speak aggressively and loudly and accused me of "yelling at him for 15 minutes with customers in front of him". I said it had only actually been 7 minutes and that I wasn't yelling. I kept trying to de-escalate him, but he WOULD NOT let me speak even when I was trying to say that his shop did the original restoration and that my family and I have been to his shop many many times since then and that I have always been happy with their service and products. I had to keep asking him to let me speak and he yelled "When YOU have 20 years of luthier experience, then YOU can tell me how to run my shop!". I was STUNNED. I have NEVER been treated like this before. Finally, he screamed into the phone "You know WHAT? I'm taking that offer BACK. Your $100 is MINE and I don't need your business ANYWAY!" Then he promptly hung up on me. Appalling.
