Find a childcare with good management. This is not the place.

I am mixed after a year of using this daycare.

The pro's;

Flexible scheduling, sometimes even with no notice

Small classes, small building, not too overwhelming for little ones

Owner is usually there and almost always available

Owner lets you take a day if you're child was sick and unable to attend (in other words, she won't charge you for not showing when your kid is sick and lets you make up a day.)

Open door policy lets parents stop by anytime.

Some of the staff are fantastic!

The toddler room teacher, the new one, is so amazing.

The bad

It could be cleaner. Even the vacuum looks like it's from 1972.

Some of the staff are not so fantastic.

My child had a lot of injuries there, even when dropped to one or two days a week, still had injuries every week, yet none were from the 5 days a week he was at home.

Once my child was picked up with an obvious large welt, apparently had been injured by another kid (bitten) on the face and no incident report was given. In their credit, he ALWAYS had one for every other injury. It did bother me though, as it was the worst he'd suffered thus far, and it worried me that it was a bite by another person. Peoples mouths are a cesspool for all kinds of nasty organisms. How do I know the biter had his shots, or had some other disease? A bite to the face leaving a significant welt should not only have had a detailed report following, but I think warrants even a phone call or a quick conversation to the parent on what happened. They didn't even mention the blatantly obvious injury until I brought it up!

Once, parents received a letter from management that was quite frankly, the most unprofessional piece of literature I've ever seen, which included personal details about an ex staffer- on the fact she was fired and why, and other inappropriate and nonsensical information that parents did not need, and likely violated the basic rights of the person in question.

Reports of staff infections, lice, pink eye and the like. Probably normal for a daycare, so I don't know if that's a con or not.

How I think they could improve;

Handle staffing more professionally.

Keep the place a little cleaner.

be more diligent about reporting injuries- especially ones that include saliva or other bodily fluids that can spread disease. (ie; bites)

Instead of opening even more centers, upgrade and take care of this one, it could stand for a little updating and tlc, this would put it more in line with the price.

Provide an internet check in/video service for parents so they can see their kids at any time. This is becoming quite common. It would lay many concerned parents to rest!

Hire staff that can spell- I know it's petty, but these are the folks introducing reading and more to the kids.

In a nutshell, I think this place is fine for a short term or day or two a week thing, but for long term, look for higher quality. The price is a bit high for daycare, especially considering you have to pack full lunches and snacks every day for the kids. I had a daycare temporarily outside a major, expensive us city that was almost $10 less a day, provided cleaner, newer and lots of outdoor facilities that far exceeded annies, a lower kid/adult ratio and also provided almost all food.
