API was founded in 1997 to meet three specific problems identified by small and medium sized businesses that wanted a greater level of customer service from their payroll provider. 1. They wanted to be treated as an important client rather than a number. 2. They were very dissatisfied with the "hard to read" payroll reports generated by the payroll systems of national payroll companies. 3. Businesses were tired of price increase after price increase while the level of service deteriorated.
