Joe's Army Navy Surplus was started in 1945 in downtown Pontiac. During the ensuing years, Joe's enjoyed success in Pontiac as a specialty retailer of military clothing and hard goods, as well as clothing, footwear, and accessories for work and outdoors. In 1983, the Pontiac store was moved to its present location in Waterford. The Royal Oak store was added in 1988 and moved to its present location in 2001. Our goal is to offer our customers quality merchandise in an environment not found in specialty stores or the mass merchants. This unique shopping experience is derived from our product mix of commercial outdoor products and U.S. and foreign government surplus items. It is enhanced by the entire staff striving together to provide our loyal customers with superior service.

The customer service (teenager's) sucks, I called ahead for a tangia burner stove and was told they didn't know what it was or have any but they had something similar so I went any way. Drove 30 miles and when I got there was denied access to bathroom, left came back and was rushed out become they wanted to close. I practicly begged them for 5 minutes to grab a bunch of stuff and was denied again sarcastically. I was prepared to spend a couple hundred dollars on there over priced stuff but will do my shopping on amazon now. Very disappointed!
