I enjoy working with people of all ages. I have experience in school counseling for over 20 years, and I have worked in elementary, middle and high schools including an alternative school. I have worked with clients with learning disabilities and gifted. I have worked with children who are on the autism spectrum, and with behavioral problems. I have worked with families who are experiencing changes: divorce, remarriage, blending families, moves, sickness and death, adoption and fostering families. I have also worked with many families who are family care placements who children whose parents can't care for them. I use an eclectic approach to counseling. With small children I use play, and art therapy. I use person-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy with older children and adults. I use Trauma Focused- CBT with clients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, accidents, traumatic medical interventions, abandonment. I have 28 years of experience in the local school system and I am comfortable helping children and their families navigate the joys and challenges of the school years and the impact this has on families. I have also worked at Coastal Plain Hospital and helped families with serious mental illness.
