The history of the Betty Ford Center is part of the life story of our founder, former First Lady Betty Ford. After completing her own treatment for chemical dependency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Long Beach, Mrs. Ford talked to her friends about the need for a treatment center that emphasized the special needs of women. Her good friend, Ambassador Leonard Firestone, encouraged Mrs. Ford to pursue her dream and in 1982, they co-founded the non-profit Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California. From its earliest days, the Betty Ford Center has treated women and men suffering from chemical dependency. The Center has always saved 50% of its space for women and 50% for men. Treatment is gender-specific; women and men reside in separate halls. Today the Betty Ford Center offers programs for the entire family system affected by addiction. All family members are deeply affected when one family member is chemically dependent. Family members are offered support and education through our five-day Family Program. The Children's Program is for children ages 7 to 12 who are not themselves addicted, but are living with chemically dependent family members.

I would not have the life I have today if it were not for the Betty Ford Center. When I entered treatment in 2006 I was treated with open arms of compassion and love. I felt the staff really cared about me and knew exactly how I felt. They continued to love and care about me until I could do that for myself. I believe that if you are treated with dignity you can begin to get your dignity back, which is exactly what happened to me. Today I am now a sober woman in recovery who is able to live a full and meanignful life. I am able to do that because of what I learned about myself and the disease of addiction at Betty Ford Center. It is a place where miracles take place.

The Betty Ford Center saved my life in 1984, and what I learned there continues to keep me going strong, one day at a time.

I could not be more disappoint...

I could not be more disappointed with Betty Ford. My mother was admitted following the sudden death of my brother which pushed her addiction to new heights. She had an incident during her detox that most rehabs would not bat an eyelash at and was transferred to a Psychiatric Hospital. This was further trauma and a knock to her attempt to get sober. I truly feel that BFC is in the business to make money and handle a very specific "country club" client base. They have a hefty price tag (which is not an issue) but I feel that the money they charge is being used irresponsibly (ie the pool, the trainers and the grounds). If you are looking for a facility to send your loved one to gain sobriety, this is NOT IT. DO NOT GO TO BETTY FORD...EVER. Betty Ford would be disappointed in Betty Ford.

PS -- The "pro-rated" return on funds is a JOKE

THE BEST YOU CAN GET

Betty Ford help save my life. I needed to get back on track & that they helped me with 100%. I assure you that Detox sucks but the alternative would have been worse. I can never express my heart fealt gratitude & thanks for all they do. You walk in one way & when you leave, you feel great! I'm back to the person I liked and the difference was amazing. If you think the price is high, think again. You would have spent maybe more on drugs & alcohol. One of the BEST moves I made in my life. Thanks to all the staff & all of you were great! Thank you for giving me & showing me how to find myself again. Forever greatful!

Sincerely, One of your success stories...............
