Just adopted our new best friend from MARL. Great experience from start to finish. Truly caring staff and volunteers who definitely care about the animals in their care-- it's not just a job for them. The shelter is clean and the animals are obviously cared for. Will tell everyone about them and will continue to support them!

A bunch of filthy no good P.S. Liars and unprofessional crack heads doing research on vet history. Applied for a animal there provided all the vets I used and guess what ? Magically even though all my cats and former animals were and are up to date on vaccines to this very day they say all of my animals are past due for vaccines.

That B**ch behind the counter was condescending to me I front of my son saying being that your animals aren't vaccinated that reflects the level of care the animal would receive in your care my son even said what your saying isn't true. God I wanted to reach behind that counter and knock her teeth out for being condescending and lying to my face and I front of my son. I hate Liars

Great place!

MARL may look small and unremarkable from the road, but it is truly a great place! The workers and volunteers are very friendly and passionate about the animals. Their serious stance on placing their animals in safe, appropriate, and loving homes is evident with the comprehensive adoption process and applications. Some pets just require specific accommodations and it would be unfair for the shelter to compromise the animal's needs just to be adopted. All of the animals at MARL are fully vaccinated, their health is checked and they are spayed/neutered before adoption which is such a great policy and money saving in the long run. The staff and volunteer work very hard to keep the shelter spotless and the animals fed, cleaned, exercised, and socialized. No animal is overlooked or cast aside, and each get equal tender love and care. I have personally dedicated time to MARL as a volunteer and can assure anyone first hand that this is a fantastic place to adopt from. An important fact about MARL is that they are a no kill shelter and do not euthanize their animals. In addition, they often travel to other shelters and rescue pets who may be facing a time limit but who are perfectly adoptable. I would reccommend for anyone to stop in and walk about the shelter to see for yourself what it is like and get an up close and personal view of the animals. Searching online for a pet is very convenient but you may not know who is going to stand out to you until you see them first hand. And one more piece of advice, MARL usually has no shortage of puppies and kittens but try going to the older animals first and spend some time with them. The older ones just seem to melt my heart and there are many who are looking for their forever homes!

Michigan Animal Rescue League ...

Michigan Animal Rescue League has gone out of their way and to extreme measures to keep a puppy from being put up for a fair adoption. They have taken the dog and completely railroaded us by first stating we did not qualify for adoption by not being able to present vaccination records from a vet that closed over a decade ago, and then they stated we didn't qualify because we didn't have a breeding dog fixed! They then tossed our application, changed the name of the dog, and never placed her on the adoption list. If they supposedly care so much about the animals going to good homes, why do they make up excuses for denying applications as they see fit? That sounds like discrimination to me. If anyone insists on going through this rescue agency to "attempt" to adopt, be sure to demand a written list of adoption disqualifiers because they will seriously make up excuses to deny applications as they go along. We also noticed while we were there that MARL violated their Animal Protection Shelter license by placing puppies and kittens in the same room and roaming free together. I plan on seeking further action against MARL for their corrupt practices.
