My experience with Shep's Yard started from a professional point as a construction contractor needing top soil to finish up a job. I continue to use Shep's for construction materials (fabric, stone, erosion mats, soil etc) and for everything from personal home garden plants, to my Christmas tree and even a 5 gallon bucket of pebbles for my niece's fairy gardens. They keep their yard cleaner and more organized than most restaurants! Simply put, you would be hard pressed to find a more efficient, cost effective and friendly professional landscape supply company than Shep's!

I have been getting Mushroom Compost from Shep's for years. I call it "Black Gold"! My vegetables always do so well in it. I also get all of my firewood for my wood burner, as well as Triple Ground Mulch from them. Even though all of the products of theirs that I have used are great, I always come back for the people. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and have often guided me to less expensive options that they thought would work better for my situation. A great local company! I won't take my landscaping business anywhere else.

Recently, I had to buy a little over a yard of stone but could only transport a small amount at a given time. They wouldn't sell it to me at the bulk rate even though I indicated I would buy this same quantity that same day. I figured that a yard was a yard since it all came from the same bin, why should it matter if it is taken over several trips or all at once. No effort was made to help me get the best price so customer service is a bit lacking. Some local businesses really go above and beyond to offer fair pricing, but this time Shep's dropped the ball. I've always had a good experience here but their reason for charging me more was that I wasn't buying in bulk.... so I guess a yard isn't a yard after all.

I'll revisit Shep's in the future, but probably only as a last resort.

We are very sorry that you feel this way. Our top priority is always customer service. So, please let us explain. A "yard" certainly is a yard... however, we can not sell materials by the "yard" unless we're able to load them with a machine into your truck or trailer (or unless we deliver them). This is because there is no way to determine what exactly a "yard" is if you're purchasing the material in 5 gallon buckets. Most places don't even allow customers to purchase materials by the bucket -- but we do as a courtesy for our customers who need smaller quantities (and we provide the buckets!). And in all our 8 years, no one has ever complained. It's like going to a big box store and buying materials in bags. If you want the "bulk" price, we're always more than happy to deliver it right to your house or load your truck or trailer. Thus, the concept of "buying in bulk." We also offer the option of a "half yard", and customers who have trucks/trailers make numerous trips on any given day to pick up the quantity that they need (and a half yard is HALF the price of a full yard -- we don't charge additional!). In the future, please bring any of your concerns to our attention, so that we're able to offer an appropriate explanation.

Shep's Yard INC. is owned and operated by Christopher Shepsko. Chris was born, raised and still resides in Phoenixville. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2003 with a degree in Landscape Contracting and Horticulture. After working for a large landscaping company for 5 years, Chris saved up enough money to start his own landscape supply yard. With the redevelopment and expansion of Phoenixville, he realized the demand for such a business, and made it happen. We are PROUD to announce that SHEP'S YARD is PA PREFERRED (registered with the Department of Agriculture), because all of our products and materials are locally grown and bought right here in our area!! We support our local growers and distributors because we believe that if our community can "buy locally, we can strive locally."
