The College of Medicine at Peoria is a part of the University of Illinois, which is one of the largest public medical schools in the United States. Founded in 1970, it supports the Rural Student Physician Program (RSPP), which provides students with a six-month opportunity to learn clinical medicine in a rural setting that involves training in pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, psychiatry and general surgery within the context of family medicine. The college employs a faculty of more than 800 full-time staff members and volunteer personnel. The College of Medicine at Peoria also has an advising program where students are mentored one-on-one by faculty preclinical and clinical advisors. Located in Peoria, ill., it offers several support services, such as assistance with housing and registration to information about student organizations, personal counseling and financial aid.
