Ford Meter Box Company in Pell City, Ala., is the manufacturing plant for Wabash, Ind.-based, Ford Meter Box s pipe products. The plant is located about 30 miles east of Birmingham and was obtained in a 1982 acquisition. Since the acquisition, the factory has expanded from 20,000 square feet to 202,000 square feet. The products manufactured in Pell City are used in the installation and maintenance of water mains. The products include couplings for connecting water mains up to 60 inches in diameter, tapping sleeves for connecting water lines to water mains, repair products for repairing leaks in water mains and restraints for use when installing new water systems. Ford Meter Box markets its products through a network of stocking distributors throughout the United States. These distributors sell to local water companies and contractors that perform water installations. The company also exports to 35 countries throughout the world.
