The Egg and I has been open about six months, and we looked forward to trying it. We finally got around to it, and we were disappointed. Being new, the restaurant is very clean and the decor is fresh. The service was quick and friendly. However, the menu is somewhat specialized and may not appeal to traditional tastes. The ranch potatoes were tasteless and their consistency was mushy as if they were baked, not fried; I prefer hash browns, which they do not offer. The pancakes are made from whole wheat; I prefer buttermilk pancakes, which they do not offer. They do offer a variety of breads for toast, but we could not get plain white bread toast. In addition, the coffee was weak and tasted a little strange; I prefer a robust cup of coffee. They do okay for what they have to offer, but they need to broaden their selections (which is probably dictated by their corporate office). We can now say we've been there, but will prefer to stick with Village Inn or IHOP for our breakfast needs
