Cat House Dirty, Dog House Cold and Dark

We bought a dog and a cat from there. The cat house is overcrowded and very dirty. Two snotty and rude teenagers "helped" us. Granted they were no help at all and just stood there giving us dirty looks. Every question we asked them was answered with an "I don't know" or a "hold on lemme call". They would then call someone who was in the house. The cats were crowded, it looked like a hoarders house more than an animal shelter.

When we bought the dog they thought she was a lab/boxer mix. She actually is a lab/rottweiler mix. The reason for the 3 star review is because we were given medicine when we adopted the dog and when they have medicine in stock all we have to do is call and tell them what we need for the dog. It saddens me that they don't take care of the small problems like ear mites before we adopt them. The dog we adopted had tons of earmites and so did our cat. However, when the girls gave us the cat they didn't explain to us that we had access to the medicine, so whenever we adopted the dog we were only given one bottle of medicine to split between them. Needless to say we had run out of medicine quickly and now all of the animals we have in the house has severe ear mites.

Walking dead

I adopted a cat from Loving Companions and not only does my cat have hereps which can be a deadly virus, but he also has Lukemia which is also a deadly virus that is spread from cat to cat. He also had ear mites and infections in both eyes causing him to go permantely blind in one eye. When I adopted him he was nothing but bones and had lost most of his fur. When I asked the old lady running the shelter what was wrong with him she said "Nothing is WRONG with him. Some cats are just thin!" Turns out that because of all his diseases he has an extra sensitive stomach that causes him to vomit if he isn't given expensive canned food. I truly believe that if I had not adopted him he would have been dead within weeks. Now after countless vet visits and blood tests and over $1,000 spent, he can see out of one eye, has gained five pounds and has regrown his fur. He is the sweetest cat ever, he only ever wants to be held and should have never been left at that death trap. For warning, if you adopt a cat from here your cat will have Leukemia, Herpes and probably ear mites and eye problems because all are spread from cat to cat by contact and they are all squeezed together in that filthy building.

Honestly, I went there hoping to find a nice fluffy friend but all I found was a really bad attitude from the owner, and the most unhealthiest living arrangements for animals. The dogs were living in their own feces and fighting with their kennel mates violently. Then I came inside and the owner asked me if I had any questions, well I asked what her general adoption fees were for her dogs and she lost it she told me that "I shouldnt be looking for a dog if I just care about the cost, because then I dont really care about the dog." This was going to be my first dog and if i made a connection with one I wanted to make sure I had the funds or at least be able to afford it than rather going home being upset so i wanted to know what to expect. Then I walked one of her dogs who was stuck in a kennel with its own feces and I was truly interested in this dog and I asked her if she was okay with other dogs and she sarcastically replied "the pitbull was in the with her." Which made me want to leave immediately. I wouldn't recommend going to this place it should be against the law to keep animals in that condition.

It's not a rescue it's a hoarding environment with very sick animals. For years this place has stolen animals, taking boarding animals and sold them out from under the owners. It is filthy, and all of the animals are very sick. This is a non profit who has been collecting grants for years to care the animals and Donna (the owner of the rescue) is not doing anything but causing them to die horrible prolonged deaths!

I was very hesitant to even visit the shelter after reading some of these reviews. The lady running it and the volunteers that were there were friendly, helpful and answered all my questions.

Place was pretty clean, dogs weren't crowded at all.

Don't let these negative and probably fictitious reviews keep you from giving Loving Care a chance. I'm really glad I decided to go see for myself.

I ended up adopting a young lab from the shelter. She's incredibly sweet and really well behaved for a young lab.

Would definitely recommend this place to friends. Plan on volunteering/donating in the future.

The housing for the animals is sad. The place smells horrible, and the owner doesn't seem to take very good care of these animals. This place shouldn't even be open any longer.

This is not a dog /cat rescue, it's a person who hordes all of her animals at this house , she sells the sick ones and keeps the good dogs. This place has a smell that will make you throw up. STAY AWAY

Loving Companions sold me a very sick cat and when I went to the shelter ( I adopted the cat at petco through lc,) I was sickened by the smell and sight of dog feces In and out of cages, flies swarming the front office and the fact that I watched a dog puke on itself roll in it and the feces that had been in the cage with it. Dogs were in the same cage and dog feces all the way to the cat cages. The cat I adopted was on death row even though I was told she was in perfect health come to find out she hadn't seen the vet while at LC as she was there for a month. This place needs to be shut down or have stronger regulations on how the animals love and there health needs to be checked when entered and before adopted out. I have to give it one star though in my opinion I give it Zero stars.

When I bought my dog from her he developed a severe intestinal infection from eating feces while being housed there. He almost died and I was stuck with a $1200 vet bill. Then a puppy from there came into the same vet with the same infection that very week

We adopted a cat from this place and he is the sweetest cat I have ever met. There were only about 25-30 cats in the place and it did not seem as though many were adoptable because they had issues but the volunteer who worked there told us that right up front if there were issues with it which I truly appreciated, after all who wants to take home a cat that may pee in your house. It was clean, not spotless but very clean considering there were multiple cats in there. I did not see any sick cats and I have to say I appreciated the fact that just because there is an issue with an animal the owner doesn't kill them. Her price is very reasonable. The Cats had full food dishes and water. They have an outside run and beds for everyone. The volunteer was emptying cat box' and another was brushing the cats. I will definately reccomend this place and we are now looking for a dog to add to our family. I will wait until the right one comes along and adopt from this agency. My husband and I will also try to give back some of our time to this place as I learned it is easy to critique until you walk in there shoes.

Please don't let the negative ...

Please don't let the negative reviews of this place discourage you from adopting a pet from LCAR. My family adopted two cats from there almost two years ago, and they are both healthy and doing great. I agree that the cat house is crowded, but at least the cats aren't stuck out in the cold or being put to sleep at Animal Control. All the people who work at the shelter have full-time jobs elsewhere, so they don't have as much time as they would like to take care of the animals. If you visit and think the conditions are bad, consider volunteering to help!

CRAZY OLD HAG

we rescued a dog from the street, after finding her owner they did not want her back and we couldn't keep her... figured a no kill shelter was our only option... after the owner of the shelter released several larger dogs to 'test' the dog being droped off she proceeded to tell us we are to either sign the release form or leave with the dog. my girlfriend wanted to hang out for a few to see how the dog in question would do, and to 'interview' the owner of the shelter.... the owner did not take this well saying she had no time for this and we were to leave the dog or take her with us... left with the girlfriend in tears and the dog in the truck... will never return

I am fostering a sweet dog fro...

I am fostering a sweet dog from Loving Companions. I read the other reviews and was very surprised, as my opinion is different. It was -35 when I went to pick him up, and I was happily surprised that the dog building was so warm, especially considering there are at least 6 doggie doors. It was not dark, it was well lit and quite clean. One of the pens did have some poop in it, but that's because the dog who stays there won't go outside in the winter at all (he has severe food allergies and many patch bald spots--they are getting him better before they will adopt him out.) Other than that, it was very clean. I brought our foster dog to the vet before bringing him home, just to make sure he was nice and healthy, and he was. The vet (Dr. Heywood from Mt. McKinley) told me she has a very good opinion of the shelter, except that sometimes it's a bit crowded-- but added it's because Donna, the manager, doesn't ever turn an animal away. Mt. McKinley has worked with Loving Companions a lot over the years, and she said that Donna does her best to make sure all of the animals are healthy. But remember, she takes in many animals with serious problems, and doesn't put them down like the Humane Society does. Whenever you get ANY pet, from a breeder, shelter or otherwise, it is YOUR responsibility to bring them to your own vet and have them checked out. I really think LC is doing a great service for our community by taking in animals who have no other options. If you are considering adopting or fostering, please consider an older animal, they are so appreciative and loving.

Bought a cat

We bought a cat from Loving Companions hesitantly named Layla..who seemed healthy and they told us was ok around dogs (We have a large dog at home). We brought her home and after 2 weeks she still was still acting very scared of our dog and would just hide under our bed all day..On the third week, she got a runny nose and we thought she had a cold. By the weekend, she had stopped eating and drinking and her eyes were almost sealed shut from discharge, so we took her to the vet. Turns out she has Feline Herpes Virus (Cat Flu). This is a virus that is very contagious from cat to cat and once a cat has been infected, it will be with them for life. They can be treated for symptoms once they become very ill like we are treating Layla now ( who is doing better ) and if their immune system is built back up they can live a pretty normal life, but they cannot be around other cats because it can still be contagious--and when they are under a good deal of stress (Such as moving into a new home...or meeting a big terrifying dog) the virus can flare up causing them to become very ill and it can even lead to death. Essentially..I imagine every cat at Loving Companions is likely infected with this virus due to the fact that they are not contained or isolated. While I cannot state that as a fact, it is simply my assumption. I highly discourage anyone from purchasing a cat here. I did not see their dog selection so I cannot comment on it.

HORRIBLE!!!

I adopted a cat from this shelter and about two months later he died. He was only a kitten when I got him, he died at 4 months old. I would never send anyone here to get a pet. The area is very dirty and the area where the cats are housed it horrible. I couldn't believe that it was even possible for cats to be housed like that. There was poop and pee everywhere, it looked as if the litter boxes weren't changed in weeks. I would never recommend getting a pet from here.
