WPBT is the PBS affiliates television station in Miami, Fla. The station airs a mixture of children educational, informational and entertainment programming shown on public broadcasting channels across the United States. Children s programming on Channel 2 includes Sesame Street, Barney & Friends, Arthur and Maya & Miguel. Informational programming shown on WPBT include Jack Horkheimer s Star Gazer, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Nightly Business Report and McLaughlin Group. Entertainment series such as Lawrence Welk and entertainment specials, documentaries and programming from different countries are also a part of the programming offered by the channel. WPBT first went on the air in 1955. As a public broadcasting channel, Channel 2 does not depend on advertising and receives support from corporations, foundations and individual viewers.
