My wife and I are both fairly skeptical when it comes to any entertainment industry "service", but we figured a School would be a step in the right direction when it comes to acting, modeling, etc. So the only question became, which school? We decided to go ahead and check out SCSOPA, so we signed up for an appointment to the orientation (free of charge of course) and headed out to see what they have to offer.

The owner Mike was the one who conducted the orientation, and I'll admit he seemed very overzealous at first. However it's easy to mistake real passion for a sales pitch (I know because I'm in sales) and after about 15 minutes you start to see the heart of a man who truly does care for the kids. He didn't sugar coat anything - and he was quick to tell you it's not for everyone. As a matter of fact, he discouraged anyone who isn't willing to make their child's acting career a priority - because without the constant and tireless effort of the parents, success in the entertainment industry is nearly impossible. Aside from the blunt honesty (which I always respect) there were other key things that made me believe that SCSOPA was the school of choice for my family. The focus is on success as a whole, not just acquiring skill sets.

Based on what we saw and heard that day, we decided we believed in Mike and SCSOPA and went ahead and signed our daughter up. It's only been 3 weeks and I can tell you we are VERY happy we made the decision. The environment itself (thanks also to both the students and teachers) is one of the most happy, positive places I've ever been. The entire vibe is uplifting, and everyone always has a smile on their face - best of all, so does our daughter. She's already seen two agents and gotten a call back! This is coming from zero experience except the few classes she's already attended. SCSOPA is definitely a fast track to exposure and learning, but more importantly: it's the kind of environment that promotes creativity and confidence.

Without a ton of experience in the industry, the best advice I can offer it to come check out SCSOPA at least once - sit through the orientation, ask Mike to see the school when class is in session - look at the faces of the kids there and make the decision for yourself. I know I'm glad we did, and our daughter LOVES going to her classes. We'll be sticking with SCSOPA for years to come.
