As a pediatric nephrologist I build relationships with the children I care for and their families, and am by their sides through both difficult and rewarding times. As I educate families about kidney disease, I am also continually learning about their hopes, challenges, and aspirations.   I treat children from infancy to young adulthood, and my area of interest is kidney transplant. Receiving a kidney from another person is both exciting and challenging. Because the kidney is not their own, children with transplants require medication to prevent their bodies from rejecting the new organ. By fine-tuning each child’s medication regimen I work to help my patients keep their transplants for as long as possible.   My research is focused on demographic factors and transplant outcomes. Our field’s increasing emphasis on individualized medicine is providing important opportunities to learn how to best care for each child and ensure that they maintain their transplant. I am involved in teaching medical students and pediatricians-in-training, and by working closely with them I hope to inspire future pediatric nephrologists!
