On 8-27-18 Petroff Towing was called by the Illinois State Police to tow a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix from IL interstate 255, which was damaged and could not be driven. We are the lien holder on this vehicle and our customer who was driving it at the time of the accident called and asked if we could tow the vehicle from Petroff Towing in order to avoid storage fees. I then called Petroff Towing to find out how much the towing fees were. Petroff told me it was $225.00 for towing and $100.00 for 2 days of storage. I arrived at Petroff Towing at 11:14 am on 8-28-18 and paid the fees they claim were owed on the vehicle. We then had to drive to their impound lot to pick up the vehicle. I had the guy who released the car to us at the impound lot write the time we picked it up on our receipt. The time of pick up was 11:30 am on 8-28-18. Petroff Towing illegally charged us 2 days of storage on a vehicle they has for LESS than 24 hours. According to the IL vehicle code (625 ILCS 5/18a-200 paragraph 6). No towing relocator can impose storage fees for the first 24 hours of towing. Not only did they ILLEGALLY charge me storage, they had the audacity to charge for 2 days when they had the vehicle for less than 24 hours. I wonder how many others have been victimized by this predatory towing company? I'm sure if they illegally charged me they are doing it to everyone. If you are reading this and feel you have been victimized by this towing company or any other IL towing company, file a compliant with the local law enforcement or the attorney general.
