Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois has been operational for more than 30 years and provides health care services. It specializes in the field of arthroscopy, and utilizes advanced magnetic resonance imaging technology and medical equipment. It operates a physical rehabilitation center that employs registered physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and physical therapy assistants. Its registered physical therapists provide various services, including evaluations, electrical muscle stimulation, diathermy, iontophoresis, fluidotherapy and ultrasonic therapy. Orthopaedic Center also conducts research and offers nerve conduction velocity testing for peripheral entrapment neuropathies, such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Additionally, it has a gym equipped with StarTrac treadmills, and provides various specialized treatments for back and hand injuries, including mechanical traction. It works in partnership with the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of Southern Illinois and is recognized by the International Society of Arthoscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine to provide fellowship programs. The center is located in Mount Vernon, Ill., and was established in 1974.
