dont try to stay here with ATV's

Early last spring we made reservations and stayed at the Moose Lake Motel, just a couple week after the trails opened. It rained that day and as we checked in that day, more wet than dirty, it wasn't until after we signed in the owner saw the ATVs and commented "he missed the trailer in the parking lot." He than began asking 20 questions about if we were going to get his hotel dirty because he's the one that cleans the rooms. We worked our way through the Inquisition and stayed. The room was clean and in fair condition for an old motel. This fall, as the ATV trails were a couple weeks from closing, we made reservations again. As this fall has been dry, we took our dusty clothes off at the trail, even before loading up for the drive to the motel. Upon arrival, the owner told us he's been trying to get ahold of us all week, the credit card we used was declined. We compared our credit card number and phone number to the one in his paper log book they both matched. Further, he had walk ins and now has NO vacancies, we would have to go somewhere else. He actually suggested the motel in Sturgeon Lake and gave us the phone number and directions but suggested to just drive down there, "the own of that motel, well, he just likes to see people before renting to them."Starting the 4 mile drive, I called and a man answer, he said he would have to check with the boss and a women came on and was very friendly and said she did have a room. We arrived a couple minutes later but had to wait to check in as another party, with ATVs was checking in! There was no looks or inspections by the owners.A few final details about this experience with Moose Lake Motel: - the credit card worked just fine to check in at the Sturgeon Lake Motel - the credit card bought gas twice that morning, breakfast, and dinner that night. - there were only tree cars in the parking lot that night - of the 12 rooms, only 2 had lights on - the phone number we gave was a cell phone with voice mail and there wasn't a single message or missed call.Last and most important: - they hand write your credit card number and expiration date in a hard bound reservations ledger when you call in! It lays right on their counter!Decide for yourself but we're not staying at the Moose Lake Motel again.

Cleanest motel room I have ever seen‎!!

We recently had business in Minnesota and needed overnight accommodations close to our destination of Cloquet. I looked up motels on my laptop from the road and found this one. I called and made our reservation and informed Phil we might be late getting in. He asked for a phone call if we were going to be later than 10 p.m. It turned out with Labor Day traffic and a late start on our part, that we were not going to be there by 10. We called him and he said he would leave the key in a certain place and the paperwork in our room and told us which room we would be in. The next morning, we had to leave early and we left everything in the room and not one time did we ever see the owner! This is the cleanest motel I have ever stayed in. And that is saying a lot on my part as my own brother has a motel! It was quiet and the bed was comfy and the room had a home-like atmosphere to it. I would recommend this motel to anyone. Thanks again Phil, and sorry we never had a chance to meet.
