Detroit Stoker Company supplies stokers and related combustion equipment for the production of steam used in heating, industrial processing and electric power generation throughout the world. It manufactures combustion equipment and systems for industrial, municipal, cogeneration and independent power producing industries. Its products include stokers, burners, replacement parts, rotary seel feeders, ash handling systems, fuel distributors, mixers and grinders. The company was founded in 1898 and is headquartered in Monroe, Mich. It developed the first mechanical stoker, a device that made the use of finely-divided, slack coal feasible. Until that time, slack coal had been discarded as unusable. Detroit Stoker is a subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation, a manufacturer of transportation and energy systems for the defense industry.
