Founded in 1964, the Council for the Spanish Speaking provides a range of bilingual programs and services for underprivileged individuals and families. It offers programs in education, housing and human services for families, children, youths and senior citizens. The council administers an adult education and training program that includes classes on citizenship, financial literacy, vocational training, computer skills and basic education. The Council for the Spanish Speaking conducts the Guadalupe Head Start early childhood program, which features education, nutrition and mental health services for low-income families. It has a housing department that manages more than 130 apartments at over five housing complexes that provide subsidized quality and safe housing for low-income citizens and mobility-impaired individuals. Council for the Spanish Speaking is located in Milwaukee.
