Overstock.com is an Internet-based reseller of a variety of brand name merchandise, including books, sporting goods, jewelry, electronics, apparel, home and garden products and gifts. The company purchases inventory from manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, e-tailers and catalog companies that are commonly left with excess merchandise due to the uncertainty of predicting exactly what, when and how much of their products will sell. It also purchases inventories in bankruptcy settlements. Along with its resale business, the company also has auction services, partner fulfillment programs and business-to-business specialty services. Overstock.com was founded in 1999 and has headquarters in Salt Lake City. Its common shares trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol OSTK.
