Issues Need To Be Addressed

The Village of Pineford can be an okay place to live, but it really depends on where you are in the complex and the type of people living around you. The main problems I have with the place are noise levels, parking, and behavior in common areas.

As is typical in apartment living, you tend to hear your neighbors every move (this is obviously less of a problem if you're in one of their townhouses). There are a lot of college students living there from Penn State Harrisburg who can be very loud at times with partying/music at all times of the day and night (both weekdays and weekends). And some people can be very inconsiderate with running/stomping around their apartment. I expect to hear the people above me walking around some times, but I have a problem with it when it's literally shaking my entire apartment as they run around. They do have quiet hours in the lease agreement, which are supposed to be 10pm-7am; however, that policy is rarely followed in the apartments from my experience. So if you're a person who values your sleep, just keep in mind that there's no guarantee you'll be able to get it in some of these apartments at times.

The parking situation is terrible in parts of the complex. I've come home at 8:30pm already, and could not find a parking spot in the lot in front of my building. There's simply too many vehicles for their current number of parking spaces. That could be a problem with some tenants having 3 or 4 cars per apartment, but something needs to happen either way. Either have a limit of two vehicles per apartment or create more spaces. The lots around the office are particularly bad.

The common areas in the apartments that have them can also get very noisy with children running through them, and slamming the doors to the stairways. And some tenants hang out in them and talk very loudly (borderline yelling) to one another. And people that literally run up and down the stairwells get extremely noisy in the apartments that live next to them, since the stairwells are nothing more than old wooden boards. I've also had an issue with a particular tenant that used a handicap parking spot and would sit there and blast her music in her car for about 20 minutes every time she pulled in. She was handicapped, so that wasn't the problem. But the fact that the parking space was obviously right in front of the apartment building, and she would just sit there with her car stereo cranked at night was very annoying.

There are other little annoyances here and there, but you'll get those wherever you live. Your experience here will vary greatly depending on the type and location of your apartment/townhouse in the complex, and how considerate your neighbors are. Unfortunately, finding considerate people in the area can be rather hard to do.

Do NOT live here. The management and employees of Pineford genuinely do not care about their tenants. When we brought up an issue of sexual assault to employees there, they refused to take any action, despite the fact that the individual lived 100 yards away.

Moreover, our power went out for no reason (which according to other tenants has happened frequently). Our water line once went out for the entire complex, and our washing machine was in such a terrible state despite our attempts to get a professional to fix it. In the end, it broke and flooded the apartment beneath us. During the winter, the roads were not salted and I skidded multiple times while driving.

Their pet fees are incredibly high, and they have very high electric rates.

Do yourself a favor and find ANYWHERE else to live.

DO NOT RENT HERE. I am a student living in one of their apartments in the Dogwood complex and our Air Conditioning has broken - no joke - 4 separate times during the past 3 months. In addition, our utilities continue going up, with management claiming it is due to rising temperatures. Our electric bill has seen a rise from $150 the first month to $335 on month #3. After speaking with neighbors and long time residents, it is clear that our issues are not unique. In addition, the management twisted our contractual agreement in favor of their own wallets by forcing us to pay an entire months rent, claiming that we never turned in lease termination papers, even though our contract specifies that we were renting for three months total. In addition, we paid for the entire 3 months up front, plus the security deposit. We are now considering court action. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Find another place to rent from, even if it's a few extra bucks per month.

This place is a dump and a rip-off, avoid it like the plague! I never actually lived there but visiting a few times was enough for me. i felt like I was walking around in a slum. A disgusting smell permeates all the residence buildings and apartments, I nearly threw up and had to get out of there, it smelled like a combination of vomit and dirty diapers--no joke! I have no idea where that came from, they would have to burn the place to the ground to get rid of it. The stairwells are rickety and feel like they could collapse at any moment. There are cobwebs and bugs everywhere and the buildings are in desperate need of a paint job. If anyone is watching TV in the whole building you can hear it, I could go on and on. The cheapest apartments are around $700/month, for that price you can get a much nicer apartment elsewhere.

I wanted to share with you my experience with The Village of Pineford this past week. My daughter and I came to look for apartments and the person that assisted us was very professional and answered all of our questions. She made us feel like she cared. It is obvious to me that this is not only her job but doing her best to make my move as smooth as possible. That means a lot if you have a busy lifestyle and can’t afford interruption in your own life and everyday schedules. We seldom hear good that we do, so it’s nice to be able to let you know something positive. Kudos…

Thank you, Michele
