It is always my intent to give patient's information that will help them make an informed decision to their treatment. Up to date information including x-rays are necessary to discuss the current condition of the foot. Having surgery is stressful and 2nd opinions are appropriate if a patient has concerns about the treatment. I encourage them.

The worst experience ever! This doctor makes you feel like you are just an obstacle in his way to charge your insurance! I went to see him for a second opinion. When he heard "second opinion" he almost started to scream at me asking "what are you want me to do?", as if I was trying to do something illegal. I brought him the MRI from the previous doctor, which he rejected as "old", ordered some X-Rays and just when the results came, he started to show some interest. He put an insole on my boot, gave me a shower protector for my foot and then on my way out his staff charged me $25 for each one, stating that the insurance does not cover for that. Later, I called my insurance and they stated they would cover it (anyways, the shower protector costs $9.99 at Walgreens with no prescription). After this visit I went 2 more times (only because I had a fracture and pain and didn't want to switch doctors again), but only to receive each time a new elastic "soft cast" on my foot and a bad face. The last time, since the pain was still there, Dr Baum told me he can not do anything else for me, he did not remembered I had fracture, he did not find the copy of my MRI on the computer (his assistance helped him), and when he found it, he didn't even look at it. He recommended me to see a "Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome Specialist" telling me that he thinks maybe there are some in Florida...and left the office.

After that experience, I will not go again to see this doctor. I am 58 years old, I have seen much, but I never have seen worse service and treatment for your money, especially from a medical "professional!"

Horrible experience

I had a horrible experience at this office, the doctor was very knowledgable about my foot condition but he only cared about selling me orthotics insoles which would cost over $400. His staff was disorganized including the office manager. I asked to verify my insurance regarding coverage for the insoles and and she abruptly interrupted me and said my insurance would not cover it. After leaving I called my insurance and they firmly stated they would cover it. I will not be going back to this office.

Awesome doctor, terrible staff

The doctor himself is very effective. He immediately knew what the cause of the pain was. However, the assistants made several mistakes during my visit.

We have treated a wide variety...

We have treated a wide variety of ailments to the foot and ankle for over 30 years. During that time, fungus toenails have been a problem to treat. With use of laser to kill the fungus, we have had good success, however not all patients will develop normal toenails after treatment. It is our interest to provide the most effective treatments to our patients. As we all know, insurance companies don't always want to pay for new technology treatments like laser. Non emergent conditions usually have options for treatment. We always detail options for the patient to make an informed decision. Unfortunately some patients, if unhappy with a suggestion, will demonstrate their frustration in a broad fashion. It is our interest only to be professional and to give our patients the best care we can.

I was very disappointed with m...

I was very disappointed with my most recent visit to Ira M. Baum’s podiatry office on 2/10/12.

My first visit back in December 2011 was very pleasant. I didn’t take long to be seen. The Dr. who saw me was Sandra Garcia-Ortiz, DPM. She was very knowledgeable and explained my condition to me. She also gave me three options to choose from. She then proceeded to tell me that it takes 6-8 months to see results.

Well, when I went in today (2/10/12), it seemed no one knew why I was there. The nurse assistant sat me down and asked me if I’d had this condition before, to which I responded, “Yes, since the last time I came.” She then said, “Oh, you’ve been here before. Then let me get the Dr. for you.”

When Dr. Garcia-Ortiz came in she asked me why I was there. I was caught off guard because I though she would at least have read my patient file. So I explained I was there for a follow-up visit. She asked me if I had seen any improvements, and I said yes, listing all the improvements I’ve noticed in the past 2 months.

She took a look and literally a second after, she looked up and said, “No. Nope, it’s not working. You’re going to have to do the laser. It costs $900, insurance doesn’t cover it, but let me tell you what’s included.” She proceeded to sell the laser treatments to me, and I was just speechless. I couldn’t believe she was telling me the treatment I have been getting up until now was not working despite the fact that I have seen improvements and that she told me it would originally take 6-8 months to see complete results.

I very politely mentioned I would talk it over with my husband, and I would set up an appointment if we decided to go that route. She then said I looked 17 and she found it funny I would have to consult with my husband, to which I gave no comment. Then she walked me to the front desk, and the receptionist charged me a copay of $35.

I was ripped off.
