The Cobb County Superior Court is a court of general jurisdiction that handles both civil and criminal law actions. The superior court has concurrent jurisdiction with state court over cases involving misdemeanors, contract disputes and premises liability. In addition, the superior court has exclusive equity jurisdiction over all cases of divorce, title to land, and felonies involving jury trials. The court has nearly 10 elected judges who preside over jury trials, rule on evidence, hear motions and render verdicts in bench trials. The superior court started one of the first mandated mediation programs and seminars for divorcing parents in the state. The courts newly installed, one-of-a-kind juror workstations allow jurors to have access to work while performing their all-important civic duty. Equipped with modem lines for use with laptop computers, the workstations also allow jurors access to a fax machine, phones and computers. The Cobb County Superior Court is located in Marietta, Ga.
