I went to see Thornton to ask a out a tummy tuck. After filling out all the paper work and talking to him for several minutes, he informed me that he doesn't do elective surgery on anyone with a BMI over 35 or A1C over 7.5. I told him about my 50 year struggle with obesity and he countered with, "What did you have for breakfast? Tell me the truth!" with a little grin, as if he were about to lecture a 3 year old for stealing a cookie.
He also told me that he left general surgery for the practice he has now because he wanted an easier life without "calls at 2 AM" from complications. After telling me initially that nobody would do surgery on me, which made me despondent, he ended the conversation by saying that other surgeons might have different standards.
I certainly hope so. I would not recommend this man to anyone.
