Do not Believe all the Bad Reviews, I have been into Flint Hills Gun Works probably 100 times in the past 4 years they have been open. John and the guys are not only great people, the Custom Rifles that they build are top notch. I had john build me a custom rifle a few years back. I have been in many shooting competitions all over the country and have won numerous awards with it. In all the times I have been in the gun shop I have no complaints what so ever, at times their gun selection got very low as they had a bad business partner. As of this summer 2016 john and the guys are under there own ownership and have a great abundance of new inventory at great Prices and have expended into custom Cerakoting. Go check them out!

I took a bolt action rifle in to get rebarreled and he had the gun over 2 years and when I finally got it back it was done incorrectly and he charged me this outraegeous price so go figure and and be your own judge...

Not sure about the "manners" or "attitudes" of those writing the negative reports, but I have nothing but the highest regard for their staff. They gave me a great deal on two trade in's and on my purchase. They have been friendly and courteous and very willing to answer all my questions. Again, if you treat people with respect you will receive it in return. Check your attitude at the door people.....

Save your time and money

I had an old .22 bolt gun that they were working on for me, it was GOING to be a Christmas present for my son. They had it for 5 months and had barely done anything with it until I told them to put it back together and I would take it elsewhere. So, in stead of doing as I wished, they did a rush job and now the gluing looks like craps, and the scope mount isn't on right because the scope is off bore to the left by almost 1/3 of an inch! They are rude. Their prices are too high. The selection of firearms is garbage. If you have a problem that needs a gunsmiths touch, for the love of God, take it far away from these guys!

I took my old 2nd gen Glock 23 up there to trade it in for a new one. The know it all lady behind the counter took my pistol to the back room and came back a few minutes later looking at me like I'm an idiot who doesn't know anything for asking 350 for it, and her words were "I'm going to have to laugh at you for that, I would maybe give you a 100 bucks for it." The only reason I gave any stars at all is the other younger guy working there who is the only one I've met in the few times I've been there to show any decency or respect. As I left, she told me to take it up to Manhattan Pawn. So I did, and not only did they give me 300 for it no problem (I probably could have got more if I tried) but they had the exact Glock I was looking for, for a good price too. Nice business strategy lady, yea I'm gonna have to laugh at you too..

I figured I would check out this gun shop because it was closer than driving all the way to Junction City. I needed a spring and a screw for my Ruger Vaquero 44mag. They did not have any in stock, which I figured, so I asked them to order one for me. They said okay and took my name and number, stating they would call me back when they received the part. They said it would be about 2 weeks which was fine with me. Two months later I go back in and ask them if my part had ever come in. They never even ordered it. I asked them again if they could order it for me, and they asked for my name and number again. They would call me in about 2 weeks when the part arrived. Its been about five months and haven't heard anything. Don't waste your time with this place. Guns are overpriced, and obviously they don't know how to order parts. They could at least call me and inform me they can't get the part. Horrible customer service. Go up to Junction City and visit one of the many shops up there.

Being from the area I couldn't be happier someone bought out Ol' Mikes. Flint Hills Gun Works is definitely an improvement! It is a family owned and operated business and they know there stuff. The gunsmith is well experienced, the wait time for him to fix your guns is more then worth it. The prices are more than competitive especially with everything going on now days. The biggest improvement over the previous shop is now you get greeted with a smile and friendly hello. They are willing to stop what they are doing to help you. Flint Hills Gun Works will be getting my business.

Don't believe the negative reviews on YP....I took my mini14 into John Maike for repair. He took it right away and completed the repair within 10 minutes. The charge wasn't overboard...very professional. Would go there again!

Find another gun store. I went in twice the first time I needed a rifle repaired the guy I talked to told me I would need to replace half the gun I called Remington and they sent me the little pin I needed for free. The second time I went in I was looking to buy a new rifle I had to wait for the three people that worked there to finish their conversation before I was helped then I was spoken to very rudly because I wanted a gun they did not have. I will never go there again.

They are still building their ...

They are still building their inventory but otherwise it is a great local business and easily the best gun store within 60 miles of Manhattan. They are friendly and helpful and their prices are as good as internet prices once you factor in the usual $20 in shipping and $30 to use someone else's FFL for firearm purchases.
