- UofL Physicians-Emergency Medicine provides initial contact, triage and assessment as members of the multidisciplinary Level 1 Trauma specialty team. This multidisciplinary team approach is immediately available 24/7 for all patients and utilizes the most up-to-date techniques and equipment. Advanced diagnostics, including ultrasound and sophisticated imaging techniques, are available to provided superior care for complex patients requiring multiple surgical specialists. The surgical teams have operation rooms and other facilities immediately available in order to provide the full breadth of trauma care.Unique aspects of the UofL Hospital include the regions only decontamination room and burn center. Burns, regardless of electrical or thermal, require unique capabilities that are provided by the emergency physicians and surgical teams. Decontamination and toxicological specialties are also available.Cardiac life support and resuscitation are our specialties, and all UofL Physicians have experience providing care for acute cardiac conditions. Emergent cardiac catherization intervention is provided by the on-call cardiology team as necessary, and is coordinated with the Emergency Department.Stroke specialists are available to the UofL Physicians-Emergency Medicine, including advanced imaging and an in-house stroke specialty response team. The stroke specialists utilize advanced stroke techniques.

- The doctors of UofL Physicians-Emergency Medicine, formerly known as University Emergency Medicine Associates, are board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, providing emergency medical care at the University of Louisville Hospital. A team of faculty, emergency medicine residents, physician assistants and specialty trained nursing staff provide emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to fulfill your familys urgent and emergency medical needs.Our physicians staff the emergency department of the regions only Level 1 adult trauma center and provide initial triage and treatment for trauma patients. A full range of diagnostic, therapeutic and emergency capabilities are available at a state-of-the art facility. The majority of critical trauma related patients from the Louisville metropolitan area, as well as north central Kentucky and southern Indiana, are evaluated in the University of Louisville Hospital Emergency Department. In addition to critical trauma care, our team provides the full spectrum of minor trauma care.Although adult Level 1 trauma care is a regionally unique aspect of the UofL Hospital Emergency Department, a significant capability exists to care for the non-trauma patient with emergent and urgent medical conditions. UofL Physicians-Emergency Medicine are trained to deliver the highest quality of care for these patients. Coordinating care, initial triage and assessment services are provided in a professional and caring fashion.
