I have recently retired from a very active medical practice. During my distinguished career as a Board Certified Internist and Medical Oncologist, I saw too many people who were suddenly faced with an unexpected critical illness and were totally at a loss, feeling helpless and very confused. I believe that I am now in a unique position, being able to devote all of my time, skills, contacts and experience to serving a select group of people as a Patient Advocate -an ombudsman, so to speak.

As a Patient Advocate – not as the person’s physician- I will interview the patient in depth and analyze his/her significant past medical history and current status. I will discuss the situation in detail with each involved physician and then personally examine all X-Rays, CT studies and MRls, and also carefully examine and interpret all biopsy material with the pathologist – as well as consult with a second pathologist who has special expertise in the patient’s condition (if appropriate). Then, I can proceed to sort out how that illness should be addressed and, if necessary, direct the patient to the most capable physician regarding his/her disease – either to begin appropriate treatment or to institute a regimen of careful serial observation if the condition does not warrant immediate active therapy.

My experience and extensive contacts with the most knowledgeable experts, nationally and internationally, in the clinical, academic and research communities of the medical establishment, will enable me to readily identify, contact and solicit authoritative opinions from world-class professionals, who can comprehensively evaluate the patient’s condition. In addition, I will be able to pursue and facilitate access to promising academic clinical trials at a university center or make arrangements for compassionate use of still -experimental drugs or treatments, if indicated, through my contacts at the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute.

I would plan to strictly limit the number of individuals I will be actively following at anyone time. I can assure you that your health and well-being will be my only priority and I will be a tireless, 24/7 advocate for you.
