For a bride and groom in love with the Wild West, a western-themed reception, complete with a western-style cake, is the perfect way to celebrate the union. The cake can be the single-item centerpiece in the midst of cowboy figurines and miniature cowboy hats, or it can be a full-scene rodeo. Whatever you choose, your guests will remember it for years.

Matching Cowgirl-Cowboy Hat Cakes

A pair of cowgirl and cowboy hat cakes resting next to each other will show your devotion to the theme. Have the cowgirl hat in white or pastel icing over white cake and the cowboy hat in a darker color over chocolate cake to add dimension and give your guests a choice.

Rodeo Cake

A large sheet cake iced in light chocolate with a rodeo scene will give your reception a lively flair. Ceramic or plastic figurines in western wear can be side by side, holding hands or lassos. Make sure you have a couple of horses tied to a hitching post somewhere in this scene.

I ♥ the West Cake

An I ♥ the West cake can be made in the shape of overlapping or side-by-side hearts, with western designs or figurines in the center. Or have a picture of a pair of horses nuzzling in the center of the hearts. Go all out with icing rope and floral borders, and don't forget to add a few fondant cowboy hats and boots to the mix.

Branded Cake

A traditional multitiered cake can be "branded" with the bride and groom's initials inside horseshoes around the edges. Add cowboy and cowgirl cake toppers under an inverted horseshoe for good luck and the full western effect.

Traditional Cake With a Twist

The bride and groom may prefer a traditional cake, but that doesn't mean their love for the West has to be left behind. Rather than the traditional bride and groom cake toppers, use western-clad figurines. To add a whimsical touch, have one of them holding a lasso.

Order a wedding cake

Wedding cakes may date back to the Roman Empire, but it doesn't mean your cake has to be trapped in tradition. Carrot cake is a great choice for health-conscious brides. If you're getting married outside, think twice about mousse-filled cakes that need cooling. Or how about a chocolate cake?
