Wedding Cake Topper Ideas
They're the finishing touch that adds a dash of personality.

The cake topper provides an opportunity for you to inject your personalities and preferences into an otherwise traditional decoration. From elegant to downright tacky, cake toppers can draw sighs of appreciation or chuckles from guests. After the wedding, the topper makes a lovely keepsake.
The most traditional topper is a depiction of the bride and groom. With so many styles to choose from, you still have plenty of leeway. Sweet bride-and-groom children, ethnic brides and grooms in every color and nationality, same sex couples, and brides and grooms with pets or children are only a few of the choices available. There are also brides and grooms that that do more than just stand arm in arm on top of the cake. You can find a figure of the groom standing on top, helping the bride to climb up the tiers of the cake. Or the groom at the bottom, looking up at a bride who, arms folded, seems to be wondering what's taking him so long to get here. There are seated brides and grooms, dancing brides and grooms, and couples in almost any pose you can think of.
Hobbies and Interests
Are you and your fiance avid skiers, climbers or motorcycle riders? You can find bride and groom figurines engaged in all these activities and many more. Perhaps you love dogs, cats or sock monkeys. Bride and groom figures of all of these animals and many more can grace the top of the wedding cake.
Blossoms--fresh, silk or made of sugar--make lovely cake toppers. The flowers should complement the flowers of the bridal bouquet and table decorations. Additional flowers may trim the cake stand or the layers of the cake.
White doves are traditional wedding emblems, but figurines of bluebirds, robins or other birds can alight atop your wedding cake.
You may choose wedding bells, made of satin or sugar, for the top of your cake. Or add a pair of Champagne glasses, entwined hearts or even a horseshoe made of sugar for good luck.

Wedding cakes may date back to the Roman Empire, but it doesn't mean your cake has to be trapped in tradition. Carrot cake is a great choice for health-conscious brides. If you're getting married outside, think twice about mousse-filled cakes that need cooling. Or how about a chocolate cake?
